How Can Motivate Students For Learning
How can we motivate students to learn? Here are a few things that help, but would not otherwise encourage motivation and learning in the classroom.
Focus on one thing. Amazingly, we are made up of three elements- oxygen, water, and food. There is nothing more important than what surrounds us- our bodies, minds, and physical experiences. But there is only so much we can control; there will always be things we cannot change. Therefore, it makes sense for our thoughts and actions as well as our bodies to focus on something positive. Focus is an indispensable element of effective teaching. I find that if a teacher thinks about something, or does something, then, more than likely, the lesson will come. This sort of thinking and action drives all of the knowledge that goes into understanding topics — this has been proven, as the adage goes, knowledge is power.
Focus on the subject matter. The human brain loves to focus on a specific topic because this helps with learning. For example, we are inclined to pay attention to math because we love math and it excites us. Most of these topics are easy and not too difficult to understand. However, learning mathematics takes time and practice. If you spend a significant amount of energy learning about it and having a little bit of success, then you are giving your mind something to work on. Similarly, if you want to make reading a habit, focus on reading rather than writing or running a half-hour a day. Reading is a fantastic way to stay motivated even if you aren’t enjoying math. Focus on the content. No matter how many times you read, it’s good to still ask yourself, “What is the main idea of this book that I should be able to explain to people?” This gives you a chance to think deeply and figure out a concept.
Be consistent
Consistency is one of the keys to effective teaching or motivation. Once a student gets familiar with the content, it will become easier to explain. Again, this is proof of how focusing on the subject matter and content leads to a better understanding of how things work.
Be realistic
Try not to be too hard on yourself or stress about how your ideas might apply to a real problem. Many students get stuck on their ideas because they don’t want to admit defeat. Don’t blame failure on yourself or yourself. And remember- when you don’t succeed because others didn’t like the material, the fact that you tried doesn’t mean that there isn’t room for improvement and growth.
Be creative in nature
Think outside the box. Sometimes, students need to play around with approaches to problems. Ideas can come from within to solve a problem, and sometimes, a person might come up with an original thought of their own. When your mind wanders and you start thinking about the ideas, take over and try again. Give it another try. After all, creativity should never be ignored.
Conclusion
If focusing on the topic matter and content leads to a better understanding of a topic, then, motivation becomes more easily achieved, because the brain becomes focused on the task at hand. Lastly, when the materials start to feel relevant to a particular situation, it allows the brain to recognize the importance of the issue, thus motivating the learner further. These are some of the most effective strategies that have proven to achieve outstanding results for teachers, students, and organizations alike.
